Reinders developed an energy-efficient custom-built climate installation for conditioning a spraying booth for automotive and aircraft paints. The installation is capable of supplying air of constant ‘test conditions’ throughout the year with temperatures between 15 and 35°C and a relative humidity between 20 and 80%. It is cooled using three semi-hermetic piston compressors with a total cooling capacity of 310 kW, dried using a silica-gel adsorption wheel and humidified using a steam humidifier which adds 540 liters of water per hour to the air flow of 16,500 m3/h. The whole is controlled by a Siemens PLC control and process visualization. The installation uses useful residual heat from the cooling process in the heating and drying mode and recovers residual heat from the spray booth so that the entire conditioning can be realized with the cooling installation.
