Corrosion involves the natural chemical attack of materials due to their environment acting on them. In particular, metals are modified by electrochemical reactions. Pure metal is transformed by corrosion into a more chemically stable metal oxide.

How can corrosion be prevented?

When metals are exposed to air with high humidity, the air enters into a chemical bond with the metal. This is also called oxidizing. Due to the oxidizing, corrosion will occur in ferrous metals. It can be prevented by drying the ambient air and thus reducing a humidity level below 50%.

Why should corrosion be prevented?

Corrosion can damage metal semi-finished products, structural work, and electronics and semiconductors. Dehumidifying air for prevention reduces product damage and maintenance costs.
