Dehumidifiers for salty air solutions (Lighthouses & Seaside buildings)

For lighthouses & buildings by the sea

Buildings located within a radius of approximately 10 kilometers from the coast are continuously exposed to salty sea air and high humidity. This is particularly true for lighthouses, which are often solitary, tall, and located directly by the sea. Overpressure in a building prevents unwanted outside air from entering uncontrollably. A slight positive air pressure creates a protective barrier against moisture and salt, two major causes of corrosion, malfunctions, and accelerated aging of installations and structures.

Reinders Industrial offers the solution for high humidity in buildings by the sea. Would you like to receive more information? Request the brochure or contact one of our engineers.

Reinders Industrial has the perfect solution

For buildings by the sea and lighthouses, a positive pressure system with desalination and dehumidification offers effective and sustainable protection. Outside air is first stripped of salt and moisture and then used to create a slight positive pressure in the building. This results in:

  • Prevent aggressive sea air from entering and better preserve structures, installations, and valuable components.
  • Reduces musty odors, improving indoor air quality.
  • Protects materials from rot, rust, and salt-induced decay.
  • Creates a more comfortable environment, especially in coastal areas where air conditioning alone isn’t enough.

Depending on the size, use, and location of the building, the system can be tailored to the specific conditions of the location. Our engineers will be happy to assist you with a customized solution for your situation.

The right approach for buildings in maritime environments

Humidity, often expressed as relative humidity (%RH), determines how much water vapor the air contains. In coastal areas, this value is almost always high. In addition, the air contains microscopic salt particles. To prevent damage, it is essential to remove both moisture and salt from the air before it enters the building. A method has therefore been developed specifically for maritime applications in which dry, salt-free air is actively blown into the building, maintaining a constant overpressure.

The system is usually installed in the lower part of the building, for example in the base of a lighthouse or in the technical room of a coastal building. From there, dry and desalinated air is blown in. Due to the positive pressure, the air slowly rises and spreads throughout the entire building. This protects all areas without the need for an extensive network of air ducts. Where necessary, additional air circulation can be added locally.

Reinders Industrial is happy to help you with your situation and is the perfect partner for customized solutions in the field of industrial dryers for maritime environments. Let one of our advisors advise you and get in touch. We are happy to help you.
